February Guild Meeting!

Everything You Wanted to Know About Paper But Didn’t Know Who to Ask

Our guest speaker Is Jill Littlewood.  For forty years, Jill has been exploring different parts of the book!  With a degree in drawing from the Art Institute in Chicago, she later studied letterpress printing at the Woman’s Building in Los Angeles. Scientific illustration for the Natural Museum In Los Angeles followed, along with Western and Chinese caliigraphy, bookbinding, and finally papermaking.  Some of her works push the line between book art and illustrations: they are books you walk through, entirely made of handmade paper, with hundreds of her illustrations and writings embedded in them.  Most recently Jill had been making sculptural pieces out of her handmade paper.

This is our regular Saturday meeting format at Valle Verde, in the Ray Schneider Social Room inside the Adminstration Building, 900 Calle de los Amigos, Santa Barbara, CA 805-883-4000

Jannie Taylor has been weaving and designing for over 40 years. Her fascination with textiles and handweaving began in the heady 1970’s and has only increased in the intervening years. Her second love is teaching; she has taught advanced weaving classes at AVL Weaving School, and has been a instructor at Convergence 2008 through 2016.

“Animal, Vegetable, or Mineral?
The world is full of an amazing range of fiber, and people around the globe have always put what is at hand to use for a myriad of purposes. Learn about the origin and properties of a wide variety of fibers that come from sheep to sheepdog; flax to fique; and silica to carbon. This lecture is suitable for anyone who is interested in fiber.”

July Guild Meeting – in the park!

Our regular monthly meeting will be anything BUT regular in July!

First of all, because the first Saturday falls on the Fourth of July weekend, we will meet on the second Saturday, July 9th AND we will be meeting at Tucker’s Grove Park in Goleta.

WHY ?  At our July meeting we are doing a dye day!  We will convene at 9:30 for social time and snacks, there will be no raffle so we can get right to work, playing with natural dyes.

BRING:   Protein fibers to dye (wool and silk), reasonable amounts.  Gloves, lunch and water.  There is a restroom there and power for the dye pots.

More details to come; for now, mark your calendars!
